Huawei Announces Cooperation with GSMA Latin America to Drive Digital Transformation in the Region

Huawei and the GSMA Latin America announced during the Gitex and Huawei Connect Dubai events the commitment to work together in Latin America and the Caribbean to promote digital transformation, increase the adoption of telecommunications services and reduce the gap in the deployment of mobile networks in the region.

Both organizations will work together to leverage experience, knowledge and reach to advance efforts to connect the disconnected and advocate for better future-oriented policies across Latin America and the Caribbean.

“The mobile industry has become the great enabler of business and society. We believe that to maximize the benefits of a fully connected Latin America, it is essential that all stakeholders work together to develop digital skills and promote the expansion of mobile connectivity for all citizens,” said Lucas Gallitto, GSMA Director for Latin America.

“We are committed to advancing the development of the industry by working together with our partners and contributing to infrastructure and digital life for all,” said Michael Xue, Vice President of Huawei Latin America and the Caribbean. “For more than two decades, we have been operating in the region with a strong track record in increasing telecom coverage.”

Xue added that “the digital age is with us here and now. We see many challenges and areas where we can work together with the GSMA for the good of the public and to help the sustainable development of Latin America in digital terms, which includes both infrastructure and the promotion of talent in the region.”

Huawei arrived in Latin America in 1998 and has been an important partner in the region’s digital transformation in recent decades. The company has significantly increased investment in corporate social responsibility in recent years, especially in connectivity, capacity building and sustainability.

The GSMA is the global trade association representing mobile operators and organizations across the mobile ecosystem and adjacent industries.
