Vultr has its origins in 2014, created by a group of engineers without any external capital. From the beginning, the founders’ goal was to build a cloud platform that provides simplified visibility and a better cost than hyperscalers, supporting the most demanding workloads while providing the security needed for data privacy and cyber resilience.

“We currently have 32 data centers on 6 continents and plan to develop more soon. We have reached more than 1.5 million customers in 185 countries since our founding. We are also one of NVIDIA’s elite partners and the only cloud platform that provides GPUs of any scale in all of our data center regions,” shared Kevin Cochrane, Marketing Manager for Vultr.

Vultr works to democratize access to cloud computing, making it cost-effective for any digital ecosystem in the world. According to Cochrane, Latin America has not been well served in recent times, so the company constantly offers its support to the region. Today they are based in Miami, and have a presence in Mexico City, São Paulo and Santiago de Chile, and by 2024 and 2025 they plan to develop new data center regions in Bogota, Colombia, Panama City, Panama, Fortaleza, Brazil and Quito, Ecuador.

“People choose us for our simplicity, transparency and price predictability, global reach and massive performance advantages we offer. We are up to 90% cheaper than hyperscalers”

“We like to think that we are the only ones that support the digital ecosystem and start-ups in the region, guaranteeing profitable access to GPUs and rapid growth for digital ecosystems in the territory,” said the interviewee.

Focus on digital startups

Vultr works especially with digital startups, founded by entrepreneurs and innovation teams. The company’s Marketing Manager explained that these types of companies face several challenges in Latin America. In principle, they have few cloud options, if they wanted to go with any of the hyperscalers, they have limited regions and capabilities, as well as little access to GPUs.

“If you have a start-up that works with AI, it is a complex situation, as you must have computing resources in northern Latin America, which is a disadvantage for the development and implementation of your applications. In addition, the cost of the structure with other manufacturers is exorbitant, our offer is very convenient to be 90% cheaper. Finally, if you have to send your data to North America, you will need a lot of bandwidth, for which our wide presence in Latin America will be very helpful,” Cochrane said.

“We have all ISO certifications and provide all the requirements for data resilience. If they are training a new model, the data they put in Vultr is private and is insured, never leaves or is processed by some foreign service”

On the other hand, the company is developing new cloud engineering capabilities, providing computing resources, the best Intel and AMD chips, object and block storage and kubernetes infrastructure for easy scaling. In addition, Vultr is working on a new native Artificial Intelligence engineering, which includes GPUs and support for training AI models on a global scale.

“If you’re in São Paulo, for example, you can build, test and develop mobile apps and websites, test them locally and scale them globally, having the same reach as any other company in the world. This ability is critical, because if it is a digital start-up, they need the best resources and all the services necessary to boost their business. This is what we offer at Vultr, something in which we are pioneers and is not available with any other supplier,” said the executive.

Expand the ecosystem and reach of Vultr

With respect to the business model that Vultr uses, Kevin Cochrane said that the brand works with the distribution and integration ecosystem. The company operates with system integrators to build large application architectures for large companies, as well as with service providers.

“We love resellers and small systems integrators. We are a company that works 100% through channels, the more partners we can have in Latin America to expand our coverage, we will do much better”

Vultr’s partner program offers different benefits to its members, such as margins of up to 15%. The manufacturer considers its partners as very strong links in proximity to the customer, which can generate value through its cloud services.

To conclude, the Marketing Manager of Vultr explained that the strategy that the company will continue to grow in the market is divided into three parts. “In principle, we will continue to expand our reach and availability, which means more data centers in more regions. We will definitely have the best cloud provider architecture in Latin America. The second is to remain pioneers in AI engineering, bringing the best GPUs to our data centers. And finally, we will continue to provide cost efficiency. At the end of the day, the cost of performance is really important, our goal is to provide greater performance at a lower price,” he said.
